1. Welcome from Coach Nelson

Welcome to Krown Academy. Welcome to the Kingdom.

I'm Kendall Nelson. I hold degrees in Sociology and Psychology. I'm a championship wrestling coach. And I was once an at-risk youth myself. I built Krown Academy because I know what it's like to need someone who believes in you. For my Kings and Queens, that someone is me.

My philosophy: the pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. At Krown Academy, we adjust the sails.

Earn Your Krown.
— Coach Nelson

2. Our Mission & Operating Pillars

Krown Academy develops the whole King and Queen — mind, body, and character — through our foundational pillars: rigorous academics, championship-level athletics, intentional mentoring, and financial literacy. We serve at-risk youth and student-athletes in grades 6–12 natively in Winston-Salem / Kernersville, NC.

3. Academic & Athletic Pillars

Academics: Academics are delivered through the Krown Kore digital curriculum (A full curriculum with digital textbooks that are state standards and scope and sequence aligned completely, preparing students with college readiness) supplemented by teacher-led direct instruction and daily assessment via the native Ticket Owl'd The Door application. Every student receives a 1:1 school-issued Chromebook for use in school and at home.

High School Acceleration: Exceptional 8th-grade students maintaining a 3.0+ GPA may formally petition to enroll in high school-level courses (Math I, ELA I, and Level 1 Foreign Languages) pending administrative approval.

Athletics: Our athletic programs emphasize holistic development. While wrestling is our inaugural cornerstone sport (with deep ties to USA Wrestling), we are actively establishing competitive pipelines for Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Track & Field, and Football. All non-competing athletes participate in customized strength, conditioning, and agility training. A minimum 2.0 GPA is explicitly required for any athletic competition eligibility.

Mentoring: Every King and Queen participates in intentional mentoring. This includes daily morning mindset sessions, weekly 1-on-1 mentor meetings, sports psychology, journaling, and group mentoring on life skills. Coach Nelson designed this proprietary program stemming from his Sociology and Psychology education and personal experience.

4. Year 1 Specific Policies (Lunch, Transit, Devices)

School Hours: 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Students must arrive by 7:50 AM and be picked up by 3:15 PM.

Transportation: Transportation to and from the academy is the responsibility of the families. We currently operate a Bring Your Own Transportation policy.

Lunch: Krown Academy enforces a Bring Your Own Lunch policy for Year 1. All students are required to bring a packed, nutritious lunch daily. We do not provide cafeteria meal service at this time.

1:1 Device Policy: Every student receives a Chromebook constraint to Krown networks. See the separate 1:1 Device Agreement for full terms. Devices must be brought charged daily. For lost or damaged devices, refer to the fee schedule in the Device Agreement.

5. The Digital Portal & KCU Ecosystem

Krown Academy operates heavily on proprietary digital infrastructure. Every student is issued a login to the Student Portal and a digital Krown Credit Union (KCU) bank account.

  • Automated Institutional Attendance: Official state attendance is logged securely via the Student Portal. Students must seamlessly log in before 8:00 AM daily to be counted officially Present. Failure to log in constitutes an unexcused absence.
  • Financial Literacy Economy: The KCU system simulates real-world wages. Students "earn capital" through the Socratic AI Crucible, Ticket Owl submissions, and consistent discipline.
  • The Storefront & Pitch System: Maintaining a positive KCU balance unlocks the ability to purchase premium academy services (gear, executive resume builds). A strict $500 KCU balance is required before a student is legally permitted to submit an entrepreneurial business pitch to the Investment Board.

Graduation Pipeline

Under the "Earn Your Krown" framework, high school graduation and the release of official transcripts legally require two components: 1) Attainment of 22 completed academic credits, and 2) A positive, solvent closing balance inside the student's KCU Treasury account. Unpaid KCU fines will hold academic records.

Guardian Access

The Parent/Guardian Gateway securely attaches to the KCU system. Parents are responsible for reviewing automated behavioral infractions, signing legal waivers, and reviewing confidential 1-on-1 Mentoring Journals natively through their administrative dashboard.

6. Discipline & Financial Restitution

Krown Academy utilizes a progressive disciplinary model tethered directly to the KCU economy. Poor choices do not just earn lectures; they legally compromise a student's institutional wealth.

INFRACTION CLASS
KCU PENALTY
Minor (Tardiness, Dress Code, Device Misuse)
-$10.00 KCU
Moderate (Insubordination, Disrespect, Skipping)
-$50.00 KCU
Major (Suspension, Severe Misconduct)
-$200.00+ KCU

Zero-Tolerance & Expulsion Clause

The following behavior directly violates the sanctity of the Kingdom and yields immediate administrative expulsion with zero refund of capital or tuition:

  • Bullying & Cyberbullying: Sustained harassment, intimidation, or actively tearing down the "crown" of another student physically or digitally.
  • Physical Violence & Endangerment: Initiating fights, assault, gang affiliation, or bringing any form of weapon—simulated or real—onto premises.
  • Substance Abuse: The possession, use, or distribution of illegal drugs, alcohol, or vaping devices on campus.
  • Severe Academic Compromise: Habitual plagiarism or institutional hacking that breaches the core honor code of Krown Academy.

6. Athletic Integrity

While wrestling serves as our inaugural sport, we welcome athletes across all disciplines (Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Basketball, Track, Football, etc.). Krown Student-Athletes must lead from the front. A minimum 2.0 GPA is explicitly, legally required to step on the mat, court, or field. Athletics are a privilege secured through academic grit.
